Photofacials (IPL) Treatments-a Great, Non-Invasive Way to Refresh Your Face
Photofacials (or IPL treatments) are non-invasive, light-based procedures used to improve skin texture and tone, reducing sun damage, acne scars, broken capillaries, and rosacea on the face, neck, and chest. Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength of light, IPL emits multiple wavelengths that penetrate the skin to target melanin and hemoglobin. They work by using pulses of light to break down pigment and stimulate collagen, requiring a series of six sessions for optimal results.
The powerful light energy is used to target a variety of skin conditions, including fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation caused by sun damage and other factors. The results can last for a year or more with proper maintenance to protect the skin from future damage.
Initial results are visible within a few days, although skin texture and tone will continue to improve over the coming weeks. As your body’s natural healing process takes over, you’ll notice many benefits: Improved facial contour, decreased redness from acne scars, and a brighter, fresher complexion.
Before your treatment, avoid any irritants to your skin, such as any products containing Tretinoin, Retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic/Salicylic Acids, Astringents or Vitamin C for two weeks. If you have any questions, contact the staff at Restoration Dermatology.
And remember, great skin health continues with great products. Develop a plan with our team to know what skincare to use to enhance your treatments. To avoid complications, such as hypopigmentation, avoid using any exfoliating that contains benzoyl peroxide, Retin-A, Retinol, and glycolic acids for several days after your procedure.
