Rosacea
Restoring skin health one patient at a time
Rosacea is a common, chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, characterized by persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like bumps. In some cases, it can also lead to ocular irritation, affecting the eyes and eyelids. While it cannot be cured, it can be very effectively managed with proper care.
Common Symptoms
Persistent Flushing: Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead that looks like a blush or sunburn.
Bumps and Pimples: Small red bumps or pus-filled spots (often mistaken for acne).
Visible Veins: Tiny “spider veins” appearing on the skin’s surface.
Eye Irritation: Eyes that feel gritty, dry, or look bloodshot (Ocular Rosacea).
Skin Thickening: In some cases, the skin may thicken and become bumpy, particularly around the nose.
The exact cause of Rosacea is unknown, but it is usually a combination of your genetics, immune system response and the environment.
Managing Your Triggers
Most patients experience “flare-ups” caused by specific triggers. Common ones include sun, heat, spicy foods, hot beverages, alcohol, wind, humidity and extreme cold.
Treatment (Personalized based on your specific symptoms):
Topical Care: Prescription creams can reduce bumps and redness.
Advanced Oral Meds: Daily medications prescribed by the physician.
Laser Therapy: Targeted laser treatments can collapse visible blood vessels and significantly reduce permanent redness.
Daily Protection: Use a gentle, fragrance-free mineral sunscreen every day.
